KIDS CERAMICS WITH ASHLEY PRIDDY
Ages: 10-17
Dates: July 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 30th
Time: 9am-12pm
Location: Eldorado High School - Ceramics Studio located in the Ag Shop.
Studio limit: 13
Day one: Students will get a lesson introduction to clay and start by making simple pots using the pinch handbuilding method. They will then learn how to make slabs to create a Cubist-inspired ceramic face sculpture that captures the essence of Picasso’s abstraction while showcasing the student’s individual creativity. For the Picasso faces, they will begin sketching out their ideas on day one.
Day two: Students will begin cutting out the pieces for their slab Picasso faces using their sketches from the previous day and assembling them. They will learn the names of clay tools and how to properly use them while adding textures and details to their sculptures. They will also learn how to attach clay pieces with slip and score methods.
Day three: Students will have a chance to throw a bowl on a pottery wheel. They’ll learn the basics of wheel-throwing such as how to center their clay on the wheel and open their vessel, and then try to create their own piece independently. All projects will need the remainder of the week to become bone dry before being fired.
Day four: Students will then return the following week, once their clay projects have been fired to bisque, in order to paint their pots and Picasso sculptures. They will learn how to mix primary colors to create secondary and tertiary colors while painting their pieces.
